Flag-lowering ceremony at Tian An Men Square (天安门广场)

After our day’s tour of Forbidden City, we still had about 45 minutes to rush to Tian An Men Square (天安门广场) to witness the flag-lowering ceremony at Tian An Men Square.

When we got out from Forbidden City, we were at the north of the entire ‘plot’ while 天安门广场 (Tian An Men Guang Chang), Tian An Men Square, is further south of that plot; 天安门 (Tian An Men), Gate of Heavenly Peace, is south of Forbidden City, and separates Tian An Men Square from Forbidden City:

SO, we reeeeeally had to rush to get to Tian An Men Square in order to catch the flag-lowering ceremony!

After walking quite a distance and asking for directions, we were finally near 天安门 (Tian An Men), Gate of Heavenly Peace:

And could see 天安门广场 (Tian An Men Guang Chang), Tian An Men Square:

We were however unable to get to 天安门广场 (Tian An Men Guang Chang), Tian An Men Square, via the underpass as we had missed the “entrance time” and would not be able to make it to the flag in time! 😦

Therefore, we had to watch the flag-lowering ceremony from across the road:

We were diagonally opposite 天安门 (Tian An Men), Gate of Heavenly Peace:

Cars along East and West Chang’An Avenue as well as Guangchang West Side Rd came to a standstill and wondered why until we saw soldiers marching from 天安门 (Tian An Men):
