Sesame Beef stir-fried with Broccoli and Carrots & Steamed Egg with minced Meat and “Veggie”

This was what we had for dinner this evening:

Sesame Beef stir-fried with Broccoli and Carrots.

Ingredients:
• 250g beef (sliced or cubed depending on preference)
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 2 tablespoons sesame oil
• 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch
• 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 tablespoon honey

• 1 pound broccoli (florets cut into small pieces, stalk cut into 1/2 inch)
• 1 carrot (sliced or diced according to preference)
• 2 small garlic cloves (minced)
• 1 teaspoon chopped green chili (I can’t take spicy food very much and so have just chosen to add just a little though the hubby loves spicy food…)
• 1/2 cup water
• 2 tablespoons soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons sesame oil

Directions:
1. Marinate sliced beef with olive oil, sesame oil, pepper, salt, light soy sauce, corn starch (to soften/tenderize beef) and honey. (I like to leave meat to marinate for hours. If time is an issue, just leave to marinate for 20 minutes.)
2. Heat garlic and chopped chilli in pan with oil until garlic browns:

3. Add beef and stir-fry till cooked.
4. Remove beef from frying pan:

5. Add broccoli and carrots to frying pan and stir-fry for 3 minutes.
6. Add water to simmer.
7. Return beef to pan and mix well with soy sauce and sesame oil for about 1 minute.
8. Serve with brown rice.

Steamed Egg with minced Meat and “Veggie”:

Ingredients:
• 125g minced meat (we used pork, you may replace it with chicken/beef, according to your preference/dietary restrictions)
• 2 small garlic cloves (minced)
• 2 tablespoons preserved lettuce (菜心 / “cai xin”, minced)
• 1 tablespoon preserved radish (“cai porh”)
• 1 tablespoon sesame oil
• 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2 eggs

Directions:
1. Add minced meat, garlic, preserved lettuce and preserved radish into bowl and mix well.
2. Add pepper and sesame oil to mixture.
3. Add eggs to ‘gel’ mixture together.
4. Steam mixture.
5. Serve with brown rice.
