Seasons by Ps Steve Dixon

It’s the 14th day of spring and Brisbane is finally warming up and starting to feel more like spring! πŸ˜€
There are phases in our lives when we feel so negative about life like the cold, dry winter months and when we feel so positive about life like the beautiful spring/summer months.

So, what’s up with ‘seasons’?

1. Seasons are God’s creation
β€’ Genesis 1:14
Then God said, β€œLet there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;

β€’ Psalms 104:19
He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down.

β€’ Ecclesiastes 3:1
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

– Seasons are not just a principle God put in place but in our lives because there is a time for every activity.
– There are times when life is good and life is bad, there’re ebbs and flows, ups and downs.

2. Every Season has a Reason
– The genius of God is that every season has its purpose and reason for us to be going through them.
– We can’t suddenly go from the cold winter to hot summer, hence spring would prepare us for the next season.
– Have you noticed now when hot summer arrives, it coincides with the time when all the fruits are there for us to hydrate ourselves? πŸ˜‰

β€’ John 15:1-2
β€œI am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
=> We need to understand the wisdom of God because He puts us through seasons to ensure the bad is taken away and the good is made better.
– There are times in our lives when we need to prune back a little bit so that we can grow stronger for the future.

β€’ John 12:24
Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
– Relationships dying off are like winter.
=> There are relationships in our lives that die off and we get so upset about it but God let those die so that we can go forth and meet better people.

– We need to see that we are blessed and our lives are not as bad as what we think of it to be; half of the world does not have the kind of income we have to fret about not having money, half of the world does not even had a pillow or bed to sleep on.
=> If you have life to wake up every day, you are blessed!

3. It is wise to know the Season you are in.
β€’ Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

– We can’t buy fruits when they are out of season because they are unavailable.
=> Only in the right seasons can things be beautiful.
– We cannot force things according to our time but things come to pass according to His season and time!

– BUT there are people selling fruits in the wrong season with the use of aeroponics or hydroponics.
=> That is like trying to fake your life and forcing things through your life to reach a point of destruction (see what is happening to the environment).

– Be who God has made you to be, don’t try to be someone else. (If you’re supposed to be a teacher, don’t try to be an accountant. If you’re supposed to be a businessman, don’t try to be an engineer.)
=> We need to live up to the season that we are called to be in that season.
∴ If we are living in a season but having the mentality of a wrong season, we would terribly mess things up. (Eg being married but having the mentality of their own parents controlling their marriage as if they weren’t married? Or having children but having the mentality that they are still without children or that their children have grown up?)

4. Do things in the Season
=> Don’t do inappropriate activities in the wrong season. (Eg sunbathing in winter or skiing in summer? πŸ˜› )

5. One Season prepares you for the next.
=> After the cold winter, there is the warmer spring.
– If we humble ourselves during winter, we would have grown and be ready for Spring.

β€’ Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

– Spring was supposed to start on 1 September but it’s only now that it’s starting to warm up.
=> There is no knowing when one season really ends and another starts, but use the current season well to get ready for the upcoming ones.

How do you prepare yourself to get from one season to the next season?
(1) Let God be God.
(2) Be prepared to let go and take hold at the same time.
=> Let go of the past and embrace the present.

(3) Accept that the new season is not better but is different.
(4) Think seasons, not season.
=> We have a tendency to look at the season we are in (“Life is good now.” Or “Life is terrible now.”) instead of always using the present to learn and get ready for the future that is to come.
– We can face the hardest of time but in the light of eternity, the light of faith in Him (even life on earth is a season of our eternity), whatever season we are going through is just a little part of our eternity.

β€’ Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

For all our readers, which ever season you may be in, know that the season will eventually pass – would you have made the best that you can/could during that season? πŸ™‚

We pray you have been blessed by our sermon notes just as we have been blessed by the word! πŸ˜‰
